Science & Data

Independent validation. West Texas conditions. Documented results.

The symBioGENESIS consortium platform is characterized by three independent laboratories across seven metagenomic analyses (2022–2025), then validated in the field by NELAP-accredited testing, university research, and multi-year trials across oilfield, wastewater, agriculture, and livestock applications.

The Consortium

A naturally evolved platform — not a single-strain inoculant.

The symBioGENESIS consortium self-assembled over approximately one decade in outdoor digester environments in Mitchell County, Texas (E2 digester source). It is naturally fermented, not genetically engineered, and applied across verticals from a single fermentation without reformulation between applications.

Customer-facing materials reference 33 active species (organisms at ≥1% relative biomass; effective diversity equivalent e3.5 ≈ 33 from Shannon index 3.52). Scientific and technical contexts document 58 genomically characterized species (characterized across seven independent metagenomics reports, 2022–2025).

Condition-dependent reorganization: Independent metagenomics (Texas Tech University, Lab+, Certified Labs) documented species-dominance shifts in response to oxygen gradients (October 2022 split-batch storage), NPK fertilization (March 2023), and petroleum exposure (August 2025) — without manual reformulation. The same production batch reorganized its community structure based on dissolved oxygen availability.

Colonization resistance: Diverse microbial communities suppress pathogens by consuming nutrients those pathogens require — a mechanism termed nutrient blocking (Spragge et al., Science, Vol. 382, 15 Dec 2023, DOI: 10.1126/science.aadj3502). This literature underpins safety and competitive-exclusion performance; Oxford did not test this specific product. Starting contamination context: up to 18,500 mg/kg TPH (Test 2, Plot 2). Results reflect West Texas sandy loam under semi-arid conditions with treatment-day irrigation only (no sustained supplemental irrigation). BioRevive is a biological process aid — not a pesticide. Preferential degradation of the C28–C35 paraffin fraction is an emerging, lab-stage application — the figures and full framing live on the commercial services page; it is not yet a field-validated wellbore service.

Commercially relevant gene categories

  • Petroleum degradation: alkB and ladA genes across 25 species (Consortium Brief, Table 3)
  • Nitrogen cycling: 52 nitrogen-fixation genes across 10 species
  • Phosphorus metabolism: 11,732 genes (present in all 58 characterized species)
  • Pathogen suppression: colonization resistance via nutrient blocking (Spragge et al., Science 2023)
  • Enzyme diversity: lipase/esterase 1,510 genes; protease 2,897 genes

Production safety markers

  • Monthly pathogen panel: zero E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, or Staph. aureus detections in finished product since 2022 (Certified Labs)
  • Feedstock vs. product: pathogens present in raw feedstock test below detection in finished concentrate (competitive exclusion in production)
  • Biosafety: BSL-1 / Risk Group 1 for all 58 sequenced species (CDC/NIH BMBL, 6th Ed.)
  • AMR screening: 261,917 proteins screened against CARD + ResFinder databases for clinically significant mobile resistance markers — none of NDM, KPC, MCR-1, or VanA detected. This is a specific-marker result, not a blanket “no resistance genes” claim (Consortium Brief §5)
